Resettlement, Agro-forestry, rice, cash crops.
Located just 7 kilometers south of the former DMZ, the area covers 2 hectares of a larger 120 hectare site prioritized by the local authorities for mine and UXO clearance to ensure the safe resettlement of 78 local households. The former village on the site was cleared in 1963 to make way for a US Marine Corps Fire Support Base "Charlie 1". The former inhabitants have been living around the edge of the site for over 25 years in overcrowded and difficult conditions waiting to return to their land. Since the end of the war, 29 people have been killed and 45 people injured in mine and UXO accidents on the site as well as 97 livestock lost.
Along with each house and garden plot each family will be given 1 1/2 hectares of agricultural land for food production and income generation.
This minefield has been successfully cleared. Deminers found and destroyed 42 UXO. This cleared minefield is part of the Truc Lam development project, a community level project to resettle 78 local families. |
