AAM Flower2003 Benefit Gala

Adopt-A-Minefield’s third annual, star-studded Benefit Gala was held on September 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  AAM Goodwill Ambassadors, Paul and Heather McCartney once again hosted the event with long-time friends and supporters, Ralph and Wendy Whitworth.

Nearly 1,200 supporters attended the sold-out event and enjoyed a magical evening of song provided by musical giants, Paul McCartney and James Taylor.  Honorees included Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who not only donated funds to clear a minefield in Cambodia, but also raised nearly $450,000 to support emergency demining in Afghanistan.  Other honorees included Bobby Muller, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, who has been at the forefront of the movement to ban landmines around the world, and the International Baccalaureate students, who raised over $140,000 in two years to clear two minefields in Cambodia and support survivor assistance programs. The honorees received a special award designed by Paul McCartney. The gala was once again emceed by the incomparable Jay Leno and raised an astounding $1.2 million.
