ABOUT ADOPT-A-MINEFIELD

Adopt-A-Minefield® was a campaign of the United Nations Association of the USA that engaged individuals, community groups, and businesses in the United Nations’ effort to resolve the global landmine crisis. The Campaign helped save lives by raising funds for mine clearance, mine risk education, and survivor assistance ranging from physical rehabilitation to vocational trainings and psychosocial support. AAM also engaged in advocacy initiatives to foster awareness about the impact of landmines, cluster bombs, and all explosive remnants of war.

The idea behind Adopt-A-Minefield was both powerful and simple. Designed to move beyond the political and policy debates typically associated with banning the use of landmines, the Campaign provided a practical solution to the tens of millions of mines that contaminate the world and to the countless survivors of landmine accidents.

Adopt-A-Minefield provided unique and creative opportunities for many different levels of participation by individuals, organizations, schools and corporations throughout the world.

Adopt-A-Minefield was a member of the US Campaign to Ban Landmines.

UNA-USA successfully concluded the Adopt-A-Minefield campaign in 2009.

Working in partnership with the UN as well as local, national and international organizations, Adopt-A-Minefield supported mine action projects in:

  • Abkhazia
  • Afghanistan
  • Angola
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Cambodia
  • Croatia
  • Colombia
  • Ethiopia
  • Iraq
  • Lao PDF (Laos)
  • Lebanon
  • Mozambique
  • Nepal
  • Vietnam
